Embodied Concealment

2021, 329 x 342 x 205 cm, various materials

Emotional states of simultaneous excavation and burial.

Physical frustration and interruption that my body experiences due to the scepticism and uncertainty I feel towards the foundational beginnings of my identity.

Uncertainty drove me to create a resemblance of memory, only to erase or cover-up in resentment of a lack of memories. A constant tension between control and surrender.

The boundary between the site and myself dissolved. It carries physical indexes of my finger and footprints.

Cycling through used fragments; scanned photographs of me from childhood, canvas, tape, paint and charcoal.

The site continues to grow beyond me; occupied by insects and mould, and the disintegration of material. The space makes itself, with the help of my curated improvisation.

A friction between permanency and temporality exists in the marks that stain the walls and floor. Once my time in this room ended, these surfaces were be painted over. However, the marks will still remain buried beneath. The early stages of our life may not leave an imprint on our visual memory, though they exist buried within our bodies.
